Bio: Born in Tokyo, Japan, Yoichiro Sato attended Tokyo’s prestigious Nippon Art university where he discovered his passion for photography. Upon graduating, he spent a brief period working as an assistant at the renowned Roppongi Studio in Tokyo, where he worked with several well-known Japanese fashion photographers.
Inspired by the industry and a need to prove himself and develop his art, he moved to Paris, the world capital of fashion, where a chance meeting saw Sato work as first assistant for the renowned Elle photographer Gilles Bensimmon. Soon after, Sato launched his own career and decided to call Paris his permanent base.
Since making France his home, Sato’s editorial work has included many assignments for magazines such as Cosmopolitan, BIBA, Glamour USA, Self, Elle USA, French Elle, Marie Claire, Figaro Madame, Grazia Italy, Vogue Bambini, Vogue Sposa and W magazine.
His commercial work includes campaigns for L’Oreal, SONY, Yoji Yamamoto, George Rech, Kenzo, Gerard Darel, Renault, Cacharel enfant, Yves Rocher, Samaritaine and many others.
Whilst continuing to pursue fully his career as a photographer, Sato has recently directed two short films. One, “Sanzashi”, was selected at the Festival du court métrage de Clermont-Ferrand.
